Organic Sprouted Tricolor Quinoa
Trader Joe's Organic Sprouted Tricolor Quinoa (8oz/227g)
While rice is arguably the most widely consumed staple food for much of humanity, a small pseudocereal known as quinoa [keen-WAH] is making strides towards larger, global consumption. It started several thousand years ago when Incas on the high Andean plains domesticated the plant that bears this grain-like seed. It continues, today, with Trader Joe’s Organic Sprouted Tricolor Quinoa.
Adding to our current quinoa selection—which includes Organic Quinoa, Organic Red Quinoa, and Organic Tricolor Quinoa—this new offering is unique in that it’s Sprouted. The Organic Quinoa is grown in Bolivia (right on those ancient high plains where it all began).
Our supplier harvests white, red, and black quinoa; then sorts, washes, and dries the seeds before shipping them to California. There, the seeds are sprouted (watered and allowed to begin growing) just enough to reduce the compounds thought to inhibit delivery of maximum nutrition.
Trader Joe’s Organic Sprouted Tricolor Quinoa is simple and clean (there are only three ingredients—white, red, and black quinoa), and delivers essential fatty acids. Each serving (1/3 cup, dry) has 0mg cholesterol, 0mg sodium, and provides 6g protein, 4g dietary fiber, and 37g of energy-boosting carbs.
Preparing some is just like making rice—rinse and simmer in water (or broth) until liquid is absorbed. Season to taste, and serve as a wholesome side. Or, mix in some roasted veggies and chicken for satisfying meal-in-a-bowl.
